"Stern-Radio", under this name radio sets were produced in the GDR. The main plant in Marzahn also included the electroplating plant in the present-day Springpfuhl industrial estate, which was acquired by the AHC almost two years after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1991. Since then, a consistent path of modernisation and automation has been taken, which continues to this day. Since 2019 we have been offering surface technology in Berlin as part of the Aalberts Group.

Except for one manual electroplating system, all systems in Berlin today are fully automatic, including the documentation of all process parameters.

The Aalberts Surface treatment plant in Berlin offers surface Technology produced in a 3-shift operation with around 80 employees and regularly trains surface coaters.

anodic plant


The HART-COAT® process, or HC for short, is an electrolytic treatment of aluminum that results in the formation of a hard and thick layer of aluminum oxide. With the HART-COAT® surface refinements, we hard anodize workpieces in Berlin for which a high degree of corrosion protection, wear resistance, dimensional accuracy, sliding behavior or insulation is required. HART-COAT® coatings are characterized by good adhesion to the base material. Compared to conventional anodized coatings, HART-COAT® coatings are thicker and more wear-resistant.

HART-COAT® surface refinement is used in almost all technical areas in which aluminium parts are subject to special functional requirements.

electroless nickle-plating plant


DURNI-COAT® is a process for the chemical nickel plating of metals (electroless nickel). In this process, the coating takes place as chemical deposition without an external power source.

The performance spectrum of DURNI-COAT® coatings ranges from chemical resistance, dimensional accuracy and optimum sliding properties to electrical conductivity and increased hardness. The coatings are deposited uniformly and true to contour. This ensures optimum finishing even for geometrically complex components.

Electroless nickel plating DURNI-COAT® is suitable for surface finishing of all low-alloy ferritic steels, cast iron materials, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass or bronze, aluminum alloys and sintered metal materials.

The three most demanded properties in the application of electroless nickel coatings are wear protection, corrosion resistance and contour fidelity. This is followed by solderability, favourable friction behaviour, high ductility and certain magnetic properties.

Technical anodizing

Technical anodizing

Technical anodizing is a coating for the functional, but also decorative finishing of aluminium. The coating is carried out in an acid electrolyte at temperatures slightly below room temperature. The workpiece is connected as an anode. In the course of the treatment, the workpiece surface is converted into a porous (dense), hard and wear-resistant aluminium oxide layer. Compaction closes the pores and greatly improves corrosion resistance. The layer thickness varies between 10 and 30 µm depending on the application and alloy.

Technically anodized aluminium parts offer increased corrosion and wear protection in almost all industries.

    Technical anodising is also used as a corrosion undercoating before painting components that are used near the sea.

KEPLA-COAT® is a plasma chemical coating for the refinement of aluminium and titanium alloys.

The KEPLA-COAT® coating protects aluminium and titanium from wear and corrosion and, due to its surface structure, enables the absorption of lubricants as well as subsequent workpiece treatments such as varnishing or impregnation.

In addition to excellent wear protection, KEPLA-COAT® offers absolute contour accuracy, dimensional accuracy and hardness. KEPLA-COAT®-coated substrates have a considerably higher fatigue strength than substrates with comparable Shifts.

The layers resist aggressive gases such as chlorine and boron trichloride. In addition, KEPLA-COAT® guarantees very good sliding properties, especially in combination with PTFE or other dry lubricants.

    Aluminium components coated with KEPLA-COAT® can be used in a variety of ways: they serve, for example, as geometrically complex rotors in turbo-molecular pumps. Where, the crack- and pore-free layer of the workpiece prevents the penetration of reaction gases and thus provides the necessary protection against plasma etching processes, while at the same time withstanding the mechanical stress of extremely high speeds. KEPLA-COAT®-coated aluminum materials are also used as sealing rings, fixing discs, rollers, drums or cylinder tubes.

    Due to their high light absorption capacity, black KEPLA-COAT® coatings are suitable for optical parts, diaphragms or radiant heaters, for example.

MAGOXID-COAT® is a plasma chemical coating for the refinement of magnesium alloys.

The MAGOXID-COAT® coating composite protects magnesium alloys against wear and corrosion and, due to its surface structure, enables the absorption of lubricants as well as subsequent workpiece treatments such as painting or impregnation.

The plasma-chemical process leads to crystalline oxide ceramic layers which, in addition to high wear and corrosion protection, also meet other requirements such as hardness, contour accuracy, flexural fatigue strength, dimensional stability or temperature resistance.

  • application examples

    Magnesium is the lightest metal in the field of construction materials. MAGOXID-COAT® optimally combines the versatility of magnesium materials with a broad spectrum of coating properties. The coating enables the use of treated magnesium products in various areas.

    Magnesium components are coated with MAGOXID-COAT® white to protect them from wear and corrosion. MAGOXID-COAT® white can also be painted subsequently (e.g. rims for sports cars, bicycles and wheelchairs).
