The electroplating department in Berlin Marzahn was originally part of "Stern Radio", which manufactured radios under the GDR. After the fall of the wall, the plant was taken over by Aalberts surface treatment in 1992. Since then, Aalberts surface treatment has and continues to consistently mordernized and automated the facility. With the exception of a manual system for samples, one-of-a-kinds and very small series, all systems now work fully automatically, including the documentation of all process parameters. Today 80 employees work in three shifts at the plant and new surface coaters are trained regularly.

Our Services

  • Technical anodising is a coating for the functional and decorative finishing of aluminium materials. The coating takes place in an acid electrolyte at temperatures which are slightly below room temperature. The workpiece is connected as an anode. During the treatment, the workpiece surface is converted into a porous (dense), hard and wear-resistant aluminium oxide layer. Special compression processes can close the pores and greatly improve corrosion resistance. The layer thickness varies depending on the purpose and alloy between 10 and 30 µm.

  • DURNI-COAT® is a process for the electroless nickel plating of metals (chemical nickel). The DURNI-COAT® process takes place as a chemical deposition without any external power source.

    The performance spectrum of DURNI-COAT® coatings ranges from chemical resistance, dimensional stability and optimum anti-friction properties to electrical conductivity and increased hardness. The coatings are contour-true and evenly deposited. This ensures optimal finishing even for geometrically complex components.

    Electroless nickel DURNI-COAT® is suitable for surface finishing of all low-alloyed ferritic steels, cast iron materials, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass or bronze, aluminium alloys and sintered metal materials.

  • HART-COAT® layers are very wear resistant and hard as a consequence of the morphology of the aluminium oxide. HART-COAT® surface finishes can be used wherever corrosion protection, wear resistance, dimensional stability, sliding behavior or insulation are required. HART-COAT® coatings are characterized by good adhesion to the base material. Compared to conventional anodised coatings, HART-COAT® coatings are thicker and more wear-resistant.

  • KEPLA-COAT® is a plasma chemical coating for the finishing of aluminium and titanium alloys.

    The KEPLA-COAT® layer bond protects aluminium and titanium from wear and corrosion and, thanks to its surface structure, enables the incorporation of lubricants as well as subsequent workpiece treatments such as painting or impregnations.

    In addition to excellent wear protection, KEPLA-COAT® offers absolute contour accuracy and dimensional stability as well as hardness. KEPLA-COAT® coated substrates exhibit a much higher fatigue strength than substrates with comparable coatings. The layers resist aggressive gases such as chlorine and boron trichloride. In addition, KEPLA-COAT® guarantees very good anti-friction properties, especially in combination with PTFE or other dry lubricants.

    MAGOXID-COAT® is a plasma chemical coating for the finishing of magnesium alloys.

    The MAGOXID-COAT® composite coating protects magnesium alloys from wear and corrosion and, thanks to its surface structure, enables the incorporation of lubricants as well as subsequent workpiece treatments such as painting or impregnation.

    The plasma chemical process leads to crystalline oxide ceramic layers which, in addition to high wear and corrosion protection, meet other requirements such as hardness, contour accuracy, bending fatigue strength, dimensional stability or temperature resistance.

                Examples of DURNI-COAT® electroless nickel plated components are:

                Wastewater engineering components, drive assemblies, nozzles, printing machine components, printing rollers, vehicle parts, filter housings, guide bushes, gear parts, flaps, pump bodies for natural gas and oil use, components which are subjected to vibration, textile machine parts, valves, compressors, packaging machine parts.

                Aluminium components coated with KEPLA-COAT® are used in many different ways:

                As geometrically complex rotors in turbo-molecular pumps. Here, the crack and pore-free coating of the workpiece, on the one hand, prevents the penetration of reactive gases and thus gives the necessary protection against plasma etching processes, whilst on the other hand, it withstands the mechanical load of extremely high speeds. KEPLA-COAT® coated aluminium materials are also found in other applications such as sealing rings, fixing discs, rollers, drums or cylinder tubes. Due to their high light absorption capacity, black KEPLA-COAT® coatings are suitable, for example, for optical parts, finely threaded parts or heating radiators.

                Magnesium is the lightest metal in the field of construction materials. MAGOXID-COAT® optimally combines the versatility of magnesium materials with a broad spectrum of coating properties. Thus, the coating allows the use of treated magnesium products in a variety of sectors. Magnesium components are coated with MAGOXID-COAT® white to protect them from wear and corrosion. MAGOXID-COAT® white can also be subsequently painted (including wheels for sports cars, bicycles and wheelchairs).

                Due to their high light absorption capacity, black MAGOXID-COAT® coatings are for example suitable for optical parts, fine threads or heating radiators.

                HART-COAT® surface treatment is used in almost all technical areas where aluminum materials are used which are subject to special functional requirements.
