Aalberts Surface Treatment GmbH - Electroplating with a Future in Villingen-Schwenningen

We, Aalberts surface treatment from Villingen-Schwenningen, are among the leading providers when it comes to solutions in the area of thin dense chromium coating. Apart from that, we offer classic electroplating services.

Welcome to Villingen-Schwenningen

Location Villingen-Schwenningen

The history of our company dates back to 1970 when Rotel Holding AG developed a carbide coating in the thin layer segment with the aim of combining tribological properties and good corrosion protection. Following continuous improvements, the procedure was patented in 1977. The patent rights were acquired in 1988 by Marco Santini, who initially founded the company Duralloy AG Schweiz. Up until now, the company has focused exclusively on the implementation of its DURALLOY® coating procedure, which is used to create extremely hard, crack-free, precise, very thin and high-purity chromium layers.

In 1991, Marco Santini acquired Klaiber Metallveredelung, a metal finishing company based in Villingen-Schwenningen (Baden, Germany). The family-run company was a classic electroplating shop whose customers were mainly from the clock and watch industry and, later on, from the medial engineering sector. In 2002, the company was renamed Duralloy Süd GmbH. The DURALLOY® procedure from Switzerland was added to Klaiber's electroplating processes.

In 2008, Aalberts N.V. acquired the companies from Villingen-Schwenningen and the Swiss city of Härkingen. Now part of the Aalberts surface treatment group, both factories achieve 40% of the turnover in the automotive industry and 30% in the mechanical engineering sector. The remainder is spread over the clock and watch, electrical engineering, medical technology, sanitary technology, textile and print industries.

Quality and Know-How in Villingen-Schwenningen

We are committed to delivering components of lasting quality, which is why we use state-of-the-art measuring methods, such as X-ray techniques for determining the coating thickness. Our electrolytes and auxiliary materials are analyzed and checked in our in-house laboratory. We are certified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard (quality management system).

Example Applications

When surfaces are coated with DURALLOY®, the wear resistance of materials which are subjected to stress in gearboxes or at shaft-hub connections, for example, is significantly increased. DURALLOY® is also used in the offshore area or in construction equipment on ships, where it is of the utmost importance to protect components against corrosion. However, pressurized parts, such as linear guides, roller bearings or aggregates - which are exposed to aggressive gases in mills or smelting works - can also be protected with DURALLOY®.

Electroplating procedures are used to coat precision springs for electrical engineering applications, switching devices as well as punched and bent parts for the automotive industry and a wide variety of medical and surgical instruments.

Areas of Application

The micro bead structure of our DURALLOY® coating is ideal for lubricant deposits. So-called lubricant pockets create an oil reservoir for extreme conditions, such as inadequate lubrication or dry lubrication.

Our electroplating department comprises a manual electroplating plant consisting of several baths and a large drum coating machine which is primarily used for coating die-cast zinc parts.

  • A roller bearing coated with a special DURALLOY® variant.

  • The components are carefully clamped onto the frame.

  • Bath analysis performed in our in-house laboratory.

  • Every day, our drum coating machine coats, amongst other things, 2 tons of die-cast zinc parts.
