What is Nanocoating?

Nanocoating is a process during which nanostructures are applied to surfaces for the purpose of sealing them on a nanoscopic scale, which means a coating layer thickness in between 1-100 nanometers. During this process, the material is changed on a molecular level. The nanocoating creates a self-organized, hydrophobic (water repelling) layer of nanoscale thickness. The nanoparticles become firmly anchored in the surface, thus ensuring that dirt particles, water droplets, grease, oil, acids and other liquids simply roll off the surface (lotus effect). This also results in easier cleaning, for example with a nano protection on ceramic surfaces or the cleaning/emptying of liquids inside of glass bottles with nano coatings. Nanoscale coatings can be applied to almost all materials (among ceramics and glass also metals, plastics, elastomers, etc.) They are resistant to temperatures of up to about 350°C and can be used as impregnation for fine-pored materials and high-precision applications.
